The Facts

Reports of an obesity epidemic appear with increasing frequency in Australia. Data from the 2004–05 National Health Survey (NHS) shows over 30% of adults were reported as overweight and there is no indication this trend is being reversed, in fact quite the opposite.

In June 2008 the ABC reported that Australia has achieved the inglorious title of No.1 Fat Nation in the world, overtaking the Americans in the obesity explosion. The latest figures show four million Australians, or 26 per cent of our adult population, are now obese compared to an estimated 25 per cent of Americans.

64% of Australian male adults are now regarded as being overweight.

This is not a situation we should be proud of and more than ever before Australians will be looking for ways to reduce their waistline and improve their quality of life.

While Detox and short term fixes may have their place in the market, long term success relies on developing sound eating habits, eating real food.

The Feast & Famine program was developed over many years by clinical nutritionist and bestselling author Dr Rick Donald after consultation with thousands of patients suffering from a myriad of health disorders.

BMI

Your Body Mass Index is a method of calculating whether you are underweight, overweight or within a healthy weight range and applies to both adult men and women. It can also be a useful tool in setting a healthy weight loss target.

To calculate divide your weight by your height in metres squared.

Example
Weight - 85 kgs, Height 1.72

1.72 x 1.72 = 2.95
85 divided by 2.95 = 28.8

  • BMI < 20 underweight
  • BMI 20 to 25 healthy
  • BMI 25 to 30 overweight
  • BMI over 30 obese

Following the Feast and Famine program will not only help you achieve your goal weight but also change the eating habits that led to your weight gain and improve your overall health.
